Assessing the thermal performance of different glass and frame buildups helps architects and engineers choose the best options for their buildings from the wide range of available alternatives. Greenplan uses Berkeley Lab’s THERM and WINDOW software for performance calculations.

Glazed doors and windows have complex relationship with the building performance, largely because they allow sunlight through in addition to all the other heat transfer mechanisms. Frames can have a major impact on the performance of a window due to blocking solar radiation (shading) and thermal bridging.

Detailed thermal performance calculations can more accurately predict the effect of glass and frame buildups on thermal conditions for an appropriate selection of size, material type/product and specific buildups for glazing.
